If Atikokan You Can Too!
Thank you to Don and Liz Mackay and their supporters in Atikokan for making a difference!
Don & Liz MacKay live in Atikokan Ontario, where they run their book store, ‘Voyageur Books & Gifts’. It is at their store where the citizens of Atikokan can drop off their printer cartridges to the Diabetes Recycle Ink Program. And we’re happy that they do!
Liz and Don are very active in the Lion’s Club and have actively promoted Diabetes Recycle Ink. within the club. They’ve been supporters of our program since Clothesline came to Thunder Bay in 2002. We estimate that Atikokan contributes close to half of the cartridges that the Thunder Bay Operation sends in for recycling. Not bad for a town of 3,600!
Atikokan is about a 2.5 hr drive from Thunder Bay, and our drivers stop there every couple of months. On occasion Liz and Don have been kind enough to deliver the cartridges to us when they come to town to visit their grandchildren, which is a big help!
We’d like to say a big ‘thank you!’ to the Atikokan Lions, as well as recognize the community of Atikokan for their participation and Liz and Don for their continued dedication to making the Diabetes Recycle Ink program a success!
Keep up the Great Work!
Girl Guides of Whitby – Making a Difference!
The 26th Whitby Guides White Pine District took it upon themselves to organize a drive to collect printer cartridges on behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Utilizing the Diabetes Recycle Ink. program the girls were able to raise more then $340.00 for the Association. Their efforts diverted nearly 500 lbs of potentially harmful waste from our landfills and have helped to conserve over 60 litres of oil. Thank you girls!! You’ve truly made a difference!

Thank you to Edie Gegolick, St. Martin’s Catholic School and Vegreville Alberta for making a difference!
Edie Gegolick has been exceedingly gracious to volunteer her time to promote the Diabetes Recycle Ink. program in her community of Vegreville, Alberta. With the support of St. Martin’s Catholic School, a new Collection Site Sponsor for the program, Edie has sent letters to over 50 businesses and has distributed numerous posters and brochures in the community. In addition to this, Edie was also able to have an article placed in the local paper and Edie has included Diabetes Recycle Ink. information in the school newsletter and student planner for the school year.
Diabetes Recycle Ink. would not be a success without caring volunteers like Edie and all those that supported her at St. Martin’s Catholic School. We’d like to give everyone involved a heart-felt thank you for your great work!
