Airline helps send Labrador kids living with type 1 diabetes to summer camp
St. John’s, NL (July 23, 2010) – Two children from Labrador will soon be boarding a flight to St. John’s to attend the Canadian Diabetes Association’s summer camp thanks to the generosity of Provincial Airlines.
“We’re very proud to support these families and offer them an opportunity to send their child to summer camp,” says Sherry Burt, FBO Marketing and Sales Manager with Provincial Airlines. “Provincial Airlines is thrilled to play a part in helping these children attend camp.”
The Canadian Diabetes Association’s Camp Douwanna is the only camp of its kind for children living with type 1 diabetes. This summer approximately 80 children from Newfoundland & Labrador will enjoy an authentic camp experience while having all of their diabetes needs monitored by a dedicated team of trained medical professionals.
Alexis Engram of Goose Bay is one of the children who will be attending Camp Douwanna which is located in Bishop’s Falls. “This is one week of the year where Alexis can be around other children her age who also live with the disease,” states Alexis’ mom Kelly. “This is a great learning experience and when she returns home she’s a book of knowledge.”
