July 30-August 2, 2010

When a child is diagnosed with diabetes, the entire family is affected. Family Camp is a one-of-a kind program in Saskatchewan. Funded through individual, community and corporate sponsorship, this annual event was developed in response to the need for newly diagnosed families to be able to get to know others in similar circumstances, share practical information and provide support to each other.

In addition to realizing that they’re not alone in their battle with diabetes, parents learned practical insights and strategies on how to best motivate their children to manage the daily grind of living well with diabetes.

What do families like most about Family Camp? One parent’s statement sums it up perfectly: “Hearing that we are not alone.”

This unique camp gives Saskatchewan families of children with diabetes the opportunity to come together for three days to provide support to each other on family coping strategies for living well with diabetes as well as to share, learn and have fun.

Family Camp takes place each summer at Saskatchewan Abilities Council’s Camp Easter Seal at Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan.
