PEI Leadership Training Program

Attention LITS and families, please review the Handbook for very important information prior to camp!
The Leaders in Training (LIT) program is offered to youth who want to explore their independence, learn leadership skills and build self-confidence through a variety of fun and challenging outdoor summer camping activities.
Who: 15- and 16-year-olds who are living with diabetes
When: July 25 – 30, 2010
Location: Located in beautiful Canoe Cove at the Canoe Cove Christian Camp
Program: This is the first year that a LIT program has been developed for our camp in PEI. This is in an attempt to satisfy the needs of youth who wish to enjoy a rewarding summer program exploring their own independence and leadership skills.
Participants in the LIT program are able to experience tremendous personal growth opportunities in a supportive, dynamic environment that offers a host of fun and challenging outdoor leadership experiences.
The LIT program uses modular training techniques to encourage participants to learn a variety of skills in several activity streams. These activities include a host of hands-on leadership activities, community volunteer events, independence training, and outdoor skills training. All of these activities combined enable the participants to realize their own potential, and focus on learning essential leadership and independence skills that will become valuable on their journey towards adulthood.
The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to work effectively with children in a camping environment and to be leaders in their communities.
This program will take place over the course of two summers, so participants will need to complete both years to have the complete skill and knowledge required to work with children in a camping environment.
Fees
The PEI Children’s Camp will be piloting a NEW “3-Tiered Voluntary Pricing Program” for the 2010 Summer. We have done this for a few reasons: first, we recognize that our families have different abilities to pay. Second, we feel it is important that we begin to communicate the true cost of camp to our camper families. Historically, we have been charging roughly 25% of the true cost directly to our participants. This of course has placed a tremendous burden on the camp’s capacity. In order to continue to provide the camping services that we do for children with type 1 diabetes in PEI, we need to take a more proactive approach in how we manage our subsidies. We hope to do this with the voluntary 3-tiered pricing program.
This year, we ask that you please take a moment to look at the rate descriptions and determine which of these three prices your family is able to pay for your child’s experience. This is strictly an honour system; select the fee you feel is appropriate and that is what you will pay. The program is voluntary, and in no way influences the experience a child will receive at camp. Please note that additional financial assistance with camp fees is still available via application for campership, but funds are limited.
Tier 1: Lightly Subsidized = $325 per child
Tier 2: Partially Subsidized = $250 per child
Tier 3: Heavily Subsidized = $200 per child
There is a $100 non-refundable deposit that is required for all application. Also please note that the Camp fees need to be paid in full before the start of the camp session.
Application
Deadline for registration is April 20, 2010. Space is limited, therefore applications received after the deadline may not be considered.
