Attention LITS and families, please review the Handbook for very important information prior to camp!

The internationally recognized Leadership Training Program began in 1988. The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to work effectively with children in a camping environment and to be leaders in their communities.

Who: Participants must be 15 or 16 years of age as of August 1 to apply. Successful applicants should be optimistic, energetic, responsible, mature, willing to take initiative and have an enthusiastic approach to all aspects of camp.
Location: Participants are required to attend both Camps Lion Maxwell and Camp Morton.
Date: The leadership trainees must attend both Camps Lion Maxwell and Camp Morton: July 11 - July 16, 2010 and August 22 - August 27, 2010.

Program: The program consists of skill and confidence building exercises and interactive education sessions. The participants have the opportunity to apply the skills that they have learned by working with campers under the supervision of staff; participants also have the opportunity to apply these skills.

Fees

Nova Scotia Leadership Program will be piloting a NEW “3-Tiered Voluntary Pricing Program” for the 2010 Summer. We have done this for a few reasons: first, we recognize that our families have different abilities to pay. Second, we feel it is important that we begin to communicate the true cost of camp to our camper families. Historically, we have been charging roughly 25% of the true cost directly to our participants. This of course has placed a tremendous burden on the camp’s capacity. In order to continue to provide the camping services that we do for children with type 1 diabetes in Nova Scotia, we need to take a more proactive approach in how we manage our subsidies. We hope to do this with the voluntary 3-tiered pricing program.

This year, we ask that you please take a moment to look at the rate descriptions and determine which of these three prices your family is able to pay for your child’s experience. This is strictly an honour system; select the fee you feel is appropriate and that is what you will pay. The program is voluntary, and in no way influences the experience a child will receive at camp. Please note that additional financial assistance with camp fees is still available via application for campership, but funds are limited.

Tier 1: Lightly Subsidized = $650 per youth
Tier 2: Partially Subsidized = $550 per youth
Tier 3: Heavily Subsidized = $450 per youth

There is a $100 non-refundable deposit that is required for all application. Also please note that the Camp fees need to be paid in full before the start of the camp session.

Application

Deadline for registration is April 20, 2010. Space is limited, therefore applications received after the deadline may not be considered.
