The Canadian Diabetes Association is a leading supporter of diabetes research in Canada. Named for insulin co-discoverer and Canadian Diabetes Association co-founder Charles H. Best, our research fund has supported leading Canadian diabetes research since 1975. (The Association has supported diabetes research since 1971, however the Charles H. Best Research Fund was established in 1975.)
The research work supported by the Canadian Diabetes Association covers a broad spectrum from basic research in the laboratory to applied research that generates results that will be of direct benefit to people living with diabetes to the training and development of future scientists. The research work, however diverse, has an important underlying theme - improving the quality of life for people living with diabetes. Ultimately, we hope that research will eventually help us cure diabetes.
Canadian Diabetes Association grant applications undergo an intensive internal and external peer review process to ensure that funds are made available to the best quality projects.
These grants and awards are an example of how the Canadian Diabetes Association is promoting innovation and discovery to prevent diabetes and its devastating complications and ensure an optimal quality of life for the more than two million Canadians who have diabetes. This is being done through eduation and services, advocacy, research and translating research into practical applications.
