Advocacy
While leading the fight against diabetes, the Association works to ensure that the millions of people across the country living with the disease have the same opportunity for the highest quality of life as all other Canadians.
Our Public Policy and Government Relations (PPGR) team is responsible for managing national advocacy direction and initiatives relating to diabetes. The team’s primary goals are:
- 1. to raise awareness of diabetes and its burden on Canadians
- 2. to improve access for Canadians to materials for managing diabetes
- 3. to achieve a high and equal quality of care for people living with diabetes across Canada
PPGR works hand-in-hand with the Association’s National Advocacy Council, responding to emerging issues and coordinating the work of volunteer advocates. It also represents the Association with governments, diabetes decision makers and other key stakeholders, and plays a leadership role in all advocacy campaigns.
On the policy side, PPGR works with various teams and volunteer committees to develop the Association’s key policy positions and statements. It is also responsible for the development and release of key reports on diabetes issues.
PPGR supports all Canadians living with diabetes who need individual advocacy direction, and provides communications and leadership training to key Association employees and other Canadians interested in becoming an advocate.
